It often requires complex legal analysis to determine whether something shared online qualifies as fair use, and you should consult with an expert.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (DMCA) helps protect copyright interests.

YouTube will accept a DMCA request to remove content that infringes on the copyright interests of others.

A DMCA notice to YouTube must include your personal information, details of the copyright infringement, and an electronic signature.

It then is sent to a designated agent of a website, who will review the request, and if the claim is valid, manage the removal of the content.

• A DMCA notification must include the following:
• An electronic or physical signature of the copyrighted work owner (or authorized person)
• Description of the copyrighted work, including the URL where this infringing content is available (or a copy of it)
• Contact details of the person submitting the DMCA notification:
• An email address, telephone, and address
• Statement in “good faith belief” that the work is not authorized by the copyright owner
• Statement by the person who sends the DMCA takedown notice that the above information is accurate and that the person sending the notice is either the copyright owner or authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner
