Here are 3 ways to get your brand and business out there on social media and make the most of your efforts on social media today.
Join and Establish a Foot Print. It may seem obvious, but the first step to getting more out of social media is to join appropriate social media sites and be both an avid reader and participant – joining the conversation – tweeting and posting. There are the big social media management sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn that most people think about joining and then there are others that may be more targeted to your industry.
A recent article in Practical Ecommerce advises the following: “Don’t limit your thinking to that one outlet (Facebook)…sites like Pinterest… and Google+ should also make up part of your brand’s social identity…In addition, expand your presence to social content networks like YouTube, Instagram, SlideShare and Vine.”
Blog and Website. While you are busy joining, tweeting, pinning and posting on various social media sites, make sure you have a business website and/or blog as well. This will be important to establishing your presence – as you then have a place to send users if they are interested in your organization. Also, having a website and blog offers you more opportunities to post and tweet out new content – such as new articles, chats, contests and more.
Be a Resource. Practical Ecommerce recommends becoming a knowledgeable resource in your industry – in other words, be useful. If you are CPA who owns an accounting firm, you can tweet out tax tips for instance and reference articles (or your own blog) for more information. Joining industry-specific or subject matter groups on Facebook or LinkedIn is useful as it also offers you another forum to display your prowess. The point is to answer people’s questions, join conversations and debates and be active on the sites you join.
